He was awarded his S.B. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2003, his Master's degree in Bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego in 2005, and his PhD from the Harvard–MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2010.
